Use PDF format for resumes and cover letters – they are quickly accessible and sharable throughout our team.
Write a cover letter in your own voice – we don’t care for formalities since we have a casual work environment.
Let your personality shine through! Do you have a weird obsession with Guy Fieri like me? It’s ok to talk about it! Obsessed with your cat or dog or snake? Show us a picture!
Match your resume to what we’re looking for. We look at A LOT of resumes in a day and there are certain key words we look for. Example: For the UI/UX artist position, we really want someone who also has animation experience. If you have that experience on your resume at an easy to find spot, you’re ahead of the game!
Keep that resume to 1 page unless you’re so incredibly experienced you need 2!
Communicate! For some positions we send out questionnaires or mini-tests. If life gets in the way of filling it out, communicate with us to let us know. We know that you’re being considerate and that’s a really wonderful trait we would want someone that will join our team to have that trait.
Play our games! We know that you are serious about working here if you picked up a few of our games/apps.
Follow up! Sometimes it gets a little busy on our end so a little reminder never hurts
Ask questions. We have answers.
When hiring, we want to find someone who has the skills we need, but also fits into our culture. If your personal art matches our aesthetic, you’re probably already a great candidate. If you like everything cute, you’re a great candidate. If you are super friendly, great candidate. Obsessed with dogs? We are too.
Q: What is your ideal Nix Hydran?
A: Our ideal Nix Hydran is aware (open, thoughtful, curious, introspective, respectful of/interested in different perspectives), brave (speaks up, stands up, not afraid to fail), and team-oriented (collaborative, communicative, puts the team before self).
Q: How do I know if my work matches what Nix Hydra is looking for?
A: Take a look the games and apps we have out. Does our art and design resonate with yours? Is your art magical, colorful and bold? If so, we’re probably on the same page already!
Q: My personal work matches Nix Hydra’s aesthetic, but I don’t have any samples of professional work that does.
A: We pride ourselves in our aesthetic, and we know it’s not too common. As long as you give us some samples of your personal work that proves you match our vibes, we don’t mind if your professional work doesn’t match.
Q: I applied to a job but I never heard back from anyone :(
A: Due to a high volume of applicants, we only respond to the applicants whom meet the job’s requirements.
Q: I was in the interview process at Nix Hydra, but I haven’t heard back from anyone. What gives?
A: Sometimes we are trying to get other candidates to catch up in the interview process so we can gauge our applicants more fairly. If we’re silent, it’s usually because you’re much more ahead of everyone else.
Q: Can I get feedback on why I didn’t get the job?
A: We love giving feedback, and try to do it as much as possible, but with some positions we have so many candidates that we don’t have the time to get back to everyone! We are a small team, and usually only one person handles hiring.
Q: I don’t see a position available that matches my skill set. Can I still apply?
A: Of course! We keep all our emails. Introduce yourself and we will take note. From time to time, feel free to check in again to say hi!
